Today we celebrated the Biblical feast of Yom Teruah or in English, Feast of Trumpets. This feast in mandated for YHVH's people in the Book of Leviticus in the following Scripture:
"YHVH spoke to Moses, saying, "Speak to the sons of Israel, saying, ‘In the seventh month on the first of the month you shall have a rest, a reminder by blowing of trumpets, a holy convocation. ‘You shall not do any laborious work, but you shall present an offering by fire to YHVH.’" Leviticus 23:23-25
This is a fun feast as it's a day for making a joyful noise unto the Lord. However, it also marks the beginning of the "10 days of Awe" which isn't about fun at all.
During the next ten days we will spend our time contemplating our sinfulness and how we have fallen short of HIS standard of holiness, HIS Torah. This time is meant to prepare us for the solemn fast of Yom Kippur or the Day of Atonement. It is a time to be very serious as we prepare our hearts to be "at one" with HIM.
The best part of Yom Teruah, however, is in our blessed hope that one of these days we will hear the Shofar blast that signals HIS return as our Holy King. On that day, there will no longer be a question in anyone's mind as to Who rules and reigns over this earth!
